If you’ve been thinking about selling your home this spring but didn’t jump on the mid-April buzz, don’t stress — the opportunity to sell at a premium is still very much alive.
While Realtor.com recently flagged April 13–19 as the best week to list a home this year, that’s just one perspective. Different sources use different data sets and criteria, which means there’s no single “perfect” week that fits every market. In fact, Zillow’s latest research suggests that late May might be an even better window for sellers.
Why Late May Could Be a Game-Changer for Home Sellers
According to Zillow, homes listed in the latter part of May tend to fetch higher sale prices. The reasoning makes sense: buyer interest typically hits a peak before Memorial Day. With summer vacations and the next school year on the horizon, many buyers aim to lock in a new home before schedules get hectic. That surge in buyer activity can create competition — and competition often drives up prices.
And Zillow isn’t the only source pointing to May as a prime time to sell. ATTOM, a leading real estate data firm, studied 59 million home sales over 13 years and found that sellers who list in May see an average sale premium of 11.1% above market value.
Bankrate adds to the chorus, noting that spring in general — especially April and May — remains the most lucrative time to sell. Sellers during these months often walk away with thousands more than those who list later in the year.
The Window Is Still Wide Open
So if you’re wondering whether you’ve missed your chance — you haven’t. We’re still in that peak spring window, and it’s not too late to take advantage of the seasonal momentum.
That said, “best” timing isn’t universal. It varies depending on your local market. Factors like current inventory, buyer demand, and how quickly homes are selling in your area all play a part. That’s why working with a knowledgeable real estate agent who knows your local trends is key to getting the timing — and price — just right.
Bottom Line
Spring is still in full swing, and so is the real estate market. If selling your home is on your radar, now’s a great time to make your move.
